Whether you're out for lunch or travelling abroad, a good bag will go the distance!

Managing continence needs on the run requires foreplanning and easy access to items such as disposable pads, wipes, storage containers, extra clothing, and soap or antibacterial solutions.

There is nothing more frustrating than being caught short at an event or shopping mall, and finding that an essential item has been left at home. Making do in the loo is stressful!

Plan ahead

It pays to think ahead and store continence products in a sturdy, moisture proof tote that's easy to carry, with compartments for various supplies.

An ordinary backpack works well (as does an opaque plastic bag for that matter), but if you'd like something more stylish, most retail outlets offer suitable bags that are damp resistant, easy to wash or clean, and have ample room for items used by most people with continence needs.

Bag options

When choosing a bag, ensure the handles are long enough to easily loop over your shoulder. The bag shouldn't be too heavy or bulky, it should be easy to wash and wipe clean, and it may need to cope with heavier wear than an ordinary bag. It's a good idea to keep your continence tote stocked so it's handy for outings, or to grab and take with you in an emergency.

You may want to pack a spare tote and leave this in the car, just in case you need extra items if there is a breakdown, or you are away from home longer than planned.
