Government can provide practical help for people caring for family or friends who are older or have ill health, a disability or a mental health, alcohol or other drug issue.
A Guide for Carers was initially launched on 24 September 2009 (by Associate Minister for Social Development and Employment, Hon. Tariana Turia) and updated in 2011. It outlines practical advice about how to access all kinds of help in New Zealand.
It was further updated in July 2013 and re-launched by Minister from Senior Citizens, Hon. Jo Goodhew.
This resource has been developed by Carers New Zealand, the New Zealand Carers Alliance, and the Ministry of Social Development.
